A brand new site enhancement is now available for your delectation: tags. The old category system proved pretty useless due to the breadth of different topics which were frequently discussed on the site. This made generic headings unsuitable for finding, well, anything really. So the category system is now being phased out in favour of the new tags. They appear at the bottom of each post and clicking on any tag will cross-reference all posts on that topic. Unless there is an outcry from the one person who secretly uses the category system, the list will be removed from the sidebar. This will free up a lot of space which may be used for a list of common tags. I am not yet sure how far back posts will be retrospectively tagged (currently it has only been applied to the last month's for testing purposes) but all future posts will be fully tagged. And keep an eye out for occasional humorous tags when I get bored.

Kirsten is off in Germany so I have the flat to myself for several days. I can't deny that I enjoy having the space and time to myself, but I have discovered that I now dislike living alone for any extended period. I'm not entirely sure when this change occurred, since I am sure I would have been more than happy to do so a few years back. The other major benefit of the empty flat is that I can spend the evenings watching old DVDs that I haven't seen for far too long. A prime example is The Godfather, since I am one of those people who defaults when in the mood to Part II rather than the original. They are both stunning films and equally well-rounded. Incidentally I am not one of those who detests Part III — it is a very different sort of film, serving a different purpose. Good in its own way, admittedly it does not reach anywhere near the heights of its classic predecessors. Nevertheless I have been neglecting the Corleone family, an oversight I am glad to have rectified.

Sarah D strongly recommended viewing Wong Kar Wei's In The Mood For Love and 2046 (a loose sequel) on consecutive nights as it apparently strengthens their impact and enhances the links between the two stories, so that is on the cards in the next few days.
